(NOTICIAS YA/EFE).- El Servicio de Ciudadanía e Inmigración de Estados Unidos (USCIS por sus siglas en inglés) anunció este lunes el incremento en los precios de varios de sus trámites a partir del mes de diciembre.
El aumento de costos, un promedio de 21%, fue una decisión de la agencia federal para recuperar el costo de los servicios que proporciona, como costos relacionados a la detección de fraude y seguridad nacional, servicio al cliente, procesamiento de casos, y proveer sin cargos a solicitantes de refugio y asilo y a otros clientes elegibles a exenciones de tarifas.
“Estamos conscientes del efecto que tiene el aumento de tarifas en los clientes que servimos. Es por esto que decidimos en contra de aumentar las tarifas según fue recomendado después de las revisiones de tarifas de los años fiscales 2012 y 2014. Sin embargo, al ser una agencia que depende de las tarifas de los usuarios para operar, estos cambios ahora son necesarios para asegurar que podamos continuar prestando servicios a nuestros clientes de manera efectiva", dijo el director de USCIS, León Rodríguez, en un comunicado.
Los cambios en las tarifas entrarán en vigor el próximo 23 de diciembre. Las solicitudes y peticiones enviadas con sello del correo el 23 de diciembre o después deben incluir estos costos o USCIS los rechazará.
Uno de los trámites cuyo precio se elevará es el de la ciudadanía. Por primera vez en seis años, la agencia migratoria subió el costo de la solicitud de naturalización, el llamado formulario N-400, de los $595 actuales a los $640 que costará en de dos meses, un aumento de $45.
No obstante, las familias cuyos ingresos estén por debajo del umbral de la pobreza podrán conseguirla a mitad de precio.
